ABOUT THE NAME
The great flood of 1913 was one of the worst natural disasters in Akron history. Beginning on Easter Sunday over 9.5 inches of water fell in little over a day. With the ground still frozen the water was not able to be absorbed into the soil and the result was absolute devastation to the canal system as well as surrounding bridges, roads, and homes. To relieve some of the pressure from the water that remained backed up some of the locks were blown up with dynamite! Sad days for the Cascade Locks.
