ABOUT THE NAME
The Rubber Bowl was a football stadium dedicated in Akron, OH in 1940. Sandwiched between the Art Deco Akron Fulton Airport and Derby Downs (home of the Soap Box Derby), the Rubber Bowl has a rich history of sports and music. In its nearly 80 years in operation the Rubber Bowl hosted two NFL games, 17 Cleveland Browns pre-season games, and numerous concerts including Simon and Garfunkel, Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, Van Halen, Metallica, Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers, Bob Dylan, and The Grateful Dead. Demolition of the Rubber Bowl began in 2018. Part of the stadium remains due to fears that its removal would cause the adjacent road to collapse. What remains of the stadium has been heavily damaged by vandalism and weather. Rubber Bowl Bubbles is a Brut IPA that pays homage to this important piece in Akron’s history.
