Daredevil Mathews Dunkelweizen

This dunkelweizen is our representation of a German dark wheat beer. The lightly toasted wheat body has notes of carmel and stone fruits. The beer finishes on your palate with the familiar smooth yeasty flavors of banana and clove, similar to our Mutton Hill Hefe.

ABOUT THE NAME

Texas rancher Fred Mathews came to Akron in 1928 to break the local record of nonstop driving. Mathews borrowed a Gardner Model 85 from a local dealership on a gentleman’s agreement. He had the Akron Police handcuff him to the car and hold the key at the station as he began his 120 hours of nonstop driving around the Akron area. Coffee, ice cream and cigarettes were all he consumed in the five straight days in which he achieved the nickname of Daredevil Mathews.
